i never heard about that sort of thing in the UK
Christianity has been here hundreds of years longer, so if the Bible required people to tithe wouldn`t it seem likely that someone might have spotted it in the Bible like when they where translating the bible into English i know Christians are supposed to help people who need help but i thought church and money were supposed to be seperate and in the past Protestant clergy were expected to live on the very least possible

what i don`t get (with all respect)is why no one noticed the Bible wanted us to do that untill christians went to America
(we have collections but i think religion supports itself and good works by land or investments i never really thought about that)

I've been tithing and putting this money into the offering every Sunday for the past 6 months or so.

When I first started this, I wasn't sure if I could afford to keep it up; Now, I'm finding that I don't even miss that money. i still have enough to do what I need and want. I know that the church is putting the offerings to excellent use.

On the other hand, my tithes don't go to the televised evangelists who hold these big rallies, and promise big blessings for our money. Have heard of much mismanagement, like Jim Bakker's air conditioned dog house and such.

Anybody hear the Bible story of the woman's mite? God was pleased with her for giving all she could.

Ok, so there is no proof that you have had Christianity longer than America, and we pay tithe because we are told to in the bible and for another you don't have to do anything, but there are consequences, like in Revelation it says that you will burn in the last days, so yeah I'm putting forth my ten %, and not just to save my butt from burning, but in the Mormon religion the tithing goes to those in need, so I know that that money goes to a good cause.

in the bible there are different types of giving: money given for the needs of men (e.g. widows, the sick, the needy) and money given for the upkeep of gods temple and those in it.
i can only summarize because of the insufficiency of this medium.
for the needs of men: alms, gifts and so on.
for the needs of gods house: TITHE, and offerrings.

yes, christianity has been in the europe longer perhaps but even in physical things, knowledge grows and no one can tell the next region of the world the next big one will sprout from.
the same is true with spiritual knowledge. europe does not hold an everlasting copyright to this kind of knowledge.

A lot of people skip over the tithe scriptures wich are mentioned in Malachi as well as the new testament.

And it's not the church we tithe to, it's obedience to God trustin Him to bless what's left so not only will our need be met but we will have an overabundance.

It's worked in my life

Well, in the first place not *all* American Christians think they have to tithe. At our church each week we ask for donations to help support our church *and* our ministries, such as our program where our church member-families take in unwed mothers and feed, clothe and house them and their child(ren) until we can help them to get & finish the training they need to get a job they can use to support themselves, but it's a *donation*. The doors are always open, whether you can afford to make a monetary contribution or not.

Why do American Christians think they have to tithe the Church ?

Most don't.

It is a SUPER CON to SQUEEZE the people.

I downloaded the info from this URL - presented it to my Pastors and NEVER EVER has the word TITHE been used again in our Church !

Well first of all I have pastored three churches and if it was not for people giving of their tithes and offerings the churches would not be able to exist and do the work that they do.

some do some dont, the tithe is for the nation israel in the old testament, the church is told to give with a glad heart and out of our abundance to where we feel god leading us to give and where it is best for the cause of the gospel to be preached.
