He is not with his mother anymore. He doesn't eat very much. Right now, I am giving him puppy chow, softened by warm water. What else should I be doing?

My mother got the dog from a lady that said he was ready to leave it's mother. My mom isn't a dog person, so I am not caring for it. I am trying to do what is best. I also plan on calling the vet tomorrow when they are open.

He really needs more nutrients than that seeing he should still be with his mother. Can you get puppy replacer milk? He'll probably drink it from a bowl but if not, bottle or syringe feed him. He should be eating quite a bit, most eat AT LEAST every few hours. Definently get him some of the milk replacer though, Also see if you can find some canned puppy food. He may be more likely to eat something like that rather than moist kibble. Its good you are calling your vet though. They can give you specific information and more advice than any of us can. Good luck.

Well i dont under stand why a month old puppy is no with its mother...but what ever. Your best bet is to call a local vet and ask them about some kind of formula like we give babys. It may need to be bottle fed. It may not eat the solid food yet because naturally a dog is drinking milk from the mother at this age in time

They should still be feeding from their mom. Try a little bit of moistened puppy chow with water as a chaser and always available. NEVER give the pups milk. If their stools become too runny, try dry puppy chow.

can you by puppy milk where you are ?( It is cows milk changed for puppies) here it is in the supermarket made by Pal dog food company. Go to a vet and ask for a bottle with the right shaped teat. If you can afford it they would have formula you could by.Cook up mince mix with it grated carrot and cooked rice.

try putting a little goats milk instead of water for a little bit. if he is a small breed puppy he will not eat much at each time you feed him. try feeding him at least 4 times a day. io am sorry he is not with his mother. good luck.
