Get off the damn computer and go to bed and close your eyes and count your breathing.

I find that when I can't sleep it's because my mind is racing a million miles an hour with things from all aspects my life and day. There are nights when a book will put me to sleep and there are nights when I'll have to take a sleep aid. If it's severe enough talk to your doctor and find out about something to take on those nights that nothing else will help you get to bed. If it's not, take the time to find out what things make you drowsy, or bored and use them to help you go to bed. Resolve the things that keep you up at night. And exhaust yourself before bedtime.

This is a stress / anxiety issue. If you are the type of person who
worries about everday things, then that is your way of dealing with them. Remember that we all need stress, although it may not seem like it.
Physical activity during the day is a great help, even driving, but you may need to see your GP if the problem persists
Lack of sleep is more serious if it impairs your ability to cope with daily life, and is coupled with other symptoms such as lack of appetite, lack of libido etc.

i take benadryl, even when im not sick, just so i can get to sleep. it works pretty quick but you usually end up feeling sick in the morning.. but you could try like sleepytime tea, or sleeping pills from cvs or something. goodluck

--warm milk or cocoa
--a couple of Advil (muscle relaxant)
--either a CD of something soothing (ocean waves, rain) or what I call the "boring" radio station (you know, the one your grandpa would listen to) -- something peaceful and boring that will kind of fill your mind with nothing so you can relax.
