My personal favorite are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They are small, very affectionate, people-oriented dogs and don't bark very much. Think golden retriever in a small package.

Go to the Animal Shelter and get an orphan. Dogs can be trained not to bark. Ask your parents just how much they want to travel and be tied down. It might not be a good idea. Try to talk them into getting a bird, fish or cat. They don't need walking in any inclement weather as dogs will. With winters being so icy, a dog could pull your parent down and they might break a hip or something else. Doctor's bills can be quite prohibitive.

small dogs are always yappy. Corgis are great dogs, they are probably the quieter of smaller dogs but still bark some and all small dogs will yap rather then bark. Personally i find small dogs extremely abnoxious and if they wanted a real dog I would recommend a golden retriever but corgis are definitely the best bet for a mini dog.

HI js, The best puppy would be a french bull dog. They are small, and not a real barker. They are a very loving family dog. That's what i would get for them. A Friend.

they need to check with the humane society in there area to see about getting one from them. they should get a little older dog than a puppy. also look up breed rescue for small dogs. i do think that a little older dog will be easier for them so they do not have to house break the puppie

Go to the library or book store. They have dog encyclopedias that give you the category of dog. so small dogs. Then you can look up the smal dogs and see which ones are less vocal, friendly with elders and all that good stuff

I would choose a pug, or a puggle. They are not supposed to be a really barker and they are not wild. If you need some info on breeds go to

p.s hope you find a dog for your parents!
