Key hasn't gone to ACC in years. Now it doesn't want to turn to start either. I've got a new ignition switch to put in, but can't seem to figure out how to get the old one out.

there should be like a small key type piece on the left side of the bottom of the steering column. if you push this in and pull the ignition out at the same time.

in a 1964 ford you just take the nut loose on the back of the switch and pull it out.It wasn't until the 70s that you have to insert the wire and that was because of locking steering wheel mechanism.

Take a paper clip there will be a hole in the faceplate where your key goes in. Insert the paperclip in the hole and pull out on the key. If it is as jammed as you say...use some wd40 to coax it out.

The shop manual for my 1990 showed that you had to drill a hole into the key cylinder, then pry open a lever. Check your shop manual.
