there was a show done on this somewhere, but basically the answer is no. the bullet doesn't have the mass to kill someone. it reaches terminal velocity on downfall, and that with the mass is not enough.

This theory was tested on Myth Busters several months ago. First, a bullet coming straight back down is beyond unlikely, second, the energy remaining from falling due to gravity is very low.

There was a lady around here that woke up with her ear hurting and bleeding. A .22 slug had fallen through the roof and hit her in her ear. Lucky she wasn't killed.

yes, some guy did time for it in the states in 93 after ballistics reports found his gun that he used in a crime he was arrested for killed a child after firing a shot in the air on new years eve some years earlier. he was charged with second degree murder.

yes, if it comes down on a trajectory. but not if it's fired straight up. it is too light to reach a high enough terminal velocity to do much harm other than a nasty bruise.

That's the scary part of shooting a loaded gun in the air. Yes, it can kill someone when it comes down. Be careful. If you're a gun owner you should know this, and you could be arrested if it happened when you're shooting. ~~~
