Place your installation disk into your cd rom drive. Then click start on your taskbar and then click run. When you see the dialog box type in sfc /scannow this will scan ur system for all windows protected files and restore them back to there original state. Another problem may have occurred if you have recently got rid of spyware and that your host file may have been corrupted, and if thats the case then i can suggest and recommend winsock fix......................WinSock XP Fix offers a last resort if your Internet connectivity has been corrupted due to invalid or removed registry entries. It can often cure the problem of lost connections after the removal of Adware components or improper uninstall of firewall applications or other tools that modify the XP network and Winsock settings. If you encounter connection problems after removing network related software, Adware or after registry clean-up; and all other ways fail, then give WinSock XP Fix a try. It can create a registry backup of your current settings, so it is fairly safe to use. We actually tested it on a test machine that was having a Winsock problem due to some Adware removal, and after running the utility and rebooting, the connectivity was restored..................... If you need a really good anti virus software then i can suggest and recommend avast, www.avast.com, i use it all the time and it catches everything.

internet explorer v7 has this bug as a standard. it happens on any website. all you can do is reinstall internet explorer or download and use a different web browser.
though in my experiance it used to happen more when the history file had a lot of data. so clearing out the internet explorer cach and temporary files as well as the history folder should help. but no guarantees.
just one possible easy solution that should help.
finally you may like to consider running an online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com and allow that to scan your computer. oh and if you have spybot spywareguard or a number of other tools this could be the root cause of your problem. I ghad spybot and internet explorer 7 would constantly crash with no good reason. i uninstalled spybot and reinstaled the web browser and problem solved. though I did also use the registry clean tool provided by http://registry-clean.net (free trial available).
there iare so many different possible causes for the crash it is hard to know which one is correct without trial and error to diagnose the solution you need.
and you should not need to format your computer. (hardly ever).
good luck.

The first thing to check when a PC starts acting up is Temporary Internet Files. From an explorer window- Tools\Internet Options\ Delete Files, and also Delete Cookies. The next thing to check is spyware and malware. Use a utility like Spybot or Ad-Aware they are both free, and I recommend using them both. Do a search for them and download them. The last thing to check is defragmentation: Start\Accessories\System Tools\Disk Defragmentation. Overall, the best way to not have that problem is do not use Internet Explorer. Download Mozilla Firefox and use that as your default browser instead.

you need to first of all run a virus scan, then if its not a virus than if you have the original windows xp cd you can do a re-format then re-install windows. A few years ago installing windows was a nightmare, but now its a breeze. Good luck with it. If you need any further info on how to do this then please feel free to email me.

its probably hopeless! but here is a suggestion:
use SYSTEM RESTORE to take the system back to its previous "last known good" state - and then gradually start adding in the latest MS update patches, (taking notes) - till the problem shows up again!
