I really like this guy that I've known for a while, but my friend doesn't think I should ask him out because he's really mean, but i like him what should I do ask him out or no.

"really mean" This is a warning sign. What does she see that you don't? I would be very cautious with this guy. Your judgment is clouded by your infatuation with him. Your friend's perception of the situation is probably clearer than yours.
Look out for mean guys; they can quickly turn into abusive boyfriends and assholes.
