ok let me re-state that. are there any laws in austrailia, that arent in the US... big ones. that are considered "felony" or "misdemenor" if they even use those terms.

asshet, umm well i guess we could....and we wouldnt go to jail for it....idk what would happen actually. i never had the urge to pee on the left side of my vehicle....

so your question is: Are the laws of Australia different to the US? Yes, very different sometimes, they are two different sovereign nations. To describe the differences would take years.

The age of consent is 16 over most of the country although I think it is still 17 in Tasmania. The legal drinking age is 18 and at 18 you are considered to be an adult in every way.
You must wear a seatbelt when riding in a car and a crashhelmet on a motorbike. The maximum permissible blood alcohol for a driver is 0.05 and you can be randomly stopped and breath tested.
It is illegal to discriminate against anyone on the grounds of race, religion, sex, sexuality, disability or age and vilification of people on those grounds is against the law.

Australia has no Bill of Rights, so there are no guarantees of freedom of speech, assembly etc. Fortunately this also means that there is no right to bear arms, so ownership of many types of guns is illegal. However we expect our politicians to respect those rights when they make laws.
Unless you are getting into some corporate fraud most of our laws are based on a shared morality, so you are usually pretty safe doing what you usually do. We are not as uptight about nudity and stuff like that. We are also not quite as insane about security and terrorism, although we are bad enough.
And we drive on the other side of the road.

I think the biggest one that you have to be aware of is the right to bear arms. It is illegal in Australia to own/carry a gun unless you have a special permit issues by the police (and that is only usually given to farmers, for the express purpose of farming, culling cattle etc). You are also not allowed to carry a knife unless you have a very good reason (ie, you unpack boxes at a supermarket for a job and are on the way to work - and it must be a good reason, and they may take it off you anyway)

Well one thing is for sure!!! we are MORE FREE!
It would be looked at as over the top...to handcuff, anyone! for just being there?..as with America.
We do have heavy speeding fines..thats very serious.
We do have spitting fines.
We do have very nice police, with manners.
HELL!!! we have it all.....YES freedom of speech, religion...we have MORE than the U.S.
