I have xp windows and its really easy to do.

Right click your mouse
Scroll to...ARRANGE ICONS BY and tab over to

NAME
SIZE
TYPE

You can choose any of these three and it will put your icons in two columns for you.

OR YOU CAN
Right click mouse
Click properties
Click customize desktop

You can aslo drag and drop the icons anywhere you like them on the desktop. Just click the icon and hold down the mouse and drag where you like it to go.

when you right click on your desktop, there is a menu called Arrange Icons By...

Go to that menu and uncheck Align to Grid. With that you can arrange your icons anyway and anywhere on the desktop.

To move an icon, click and hold it, then drag it to the spot that you want it.
