There are a couple of solutions, depending on your yard. You can go to your carpet store and get the roll of carpet guard plastic. It is the kind that is clear plastic, that they put down the hallways or high traffic areas to protect carpeting...It is smooth on one side and stickery on the bottom (to hold it to the carpeting)
Put it at the base of your fence. Only put it upside down, so that the side with the stickers is UP..Dogs won't step on the sticker side..
the other solution is an electric wire or electric tape. You can get a kit for a pet safe electric wire or tape at any garden center, feed stores or hard-wares...The kits range from $60-$100, depending on the size of the area..Install it near the top of the fence, so the dog touches it only when he is climbing.

My boston leaps over my six foot fence like nothing. I got a chain just a little bit shorter that the edge of the fence. I only put my dog on it when I cannot stay outside with him. He is learning not to jump the fence. I let him loose for 5 minutes without watching. Then after a few times, I let the time go to 10 minutes. We have gotten to 15 minutes before he jumps. This gives him a little bit of freedom, but also is training him not to jump.

I know thats crazy isn't? I had a dog that would climb a six foot chain link fence.
Just be careful when you use a chain to hold him back that it doesn't go over the fence or he could hang him self....

Well, an electric fence along the top would solve it, but a kinder cheaper solution would be to install a zip line inside the fence. It's essentially a leash on a clothes line, can run up and down but can't go more than so far to the left and right.

This sounds cruel, but it's better than having him hit by a car or impounded. Run a hot wire around the top. It's not very expensive and he will stop after one or two times. You will be able to turn it off for a month or two and then turn it on periodically. He will stay inside.

NO! dont zap the dog. you either have to make the fence taller or make it into a wooden fence. also you might have to chain the pup.

Nearly impossible. But if you have a tree or a post, just put a long chain on the dog and tie it up while you're away. That worked for me.

Labs are very intelligent dog. He probably observed you doing it and that was enough. Get a rope or something to tie above the latch, something he can not push with his nose.

Get one of those extra long leashes that's just short of the gate.
