because you still DO love them. that love makes you oversee the things that the other partner is making you go through.

The illusion of hope over facts causes this effect.
You love them and it's very difficult for you to accept that they have found a better 'choice' than you. Your self cannot accept this fact. Your Self thinks optmistically that they will be back one day realizing your real love for them but you see that never happens. People who really love you never actually leave you and if they do they have probably already made up their minds while doing so. Your mind doesn't accept this fact.. The fact that you are no more wanted by them. The more your mind thinks about it the more miserable you feel. Worst is the more you try to stop your mind the more it thinks about them!.
Stop making efforts to get them back. Stop stopping your mind 'for NOT thinking' about them. Rather, go ahead do new things and see more people soon you will start feeling better

I am in that exact kind of situation. My bf of 6 months broke up with me for a "hotter" girl. Some days he'll still call me (while he's in the other relationship) and tell me that he misses me and wants me back. I am always very confused about that, but of course I always say yes, because I love him unconditionally. He'll call me again a few days later basically saying "never mind". I am always very hurt, because he'll tell me he loves me and that I'm the only one that he wants, but in the end, he is lying to me.
i think you need to flush your relationship down the toilet and let it go. Once you say goodbye forever, you will feel much better and fullfill your life with many other things (possibly a better lover) that you would have never imagined to. I am still in the process of doing this and yes it is hard, but I am already starting to find better things in life.
i hope this helps you and I hope you try the things I did, because in the end you'll be much better off. Good luck!

All I can say is it is hard not to follow your heart...when you love someone you will do anything to be with them, and if that means being hurt, then you will be hurt to be with them as long as you can "be" with them
