Some people may not be where they're supposed to be, or one may be eluding an abusive ex-spouse (or mate), or may have testified in a criminal trial and are afraid of being recognized by the "wrong people."
Some people suffer from low self-esteem from what they perceive to be a physical defect (a large nose, a lazy eye, bad teeth, bad complexion, balding, overweight, large ears or protruding ears, scars, etc). You and I may not notice these "faults" but they do, and it's really no fun making people suffer more than they're making themselves suffer.
There are many serious reasons why some "decent-looking people" may not want their photos taken, and the best we can do is simply respect their wishes, as we'd like our wishes respected, too. It's called common courtesy, tactfulness and good manners.

i think that people are afraid of being photographed because it is a self conscious thing. even though you may know that you look good you may not think that the camera portrays your best side.

Because someone might just remeber taha's the same decent looking face as on display in the Post Office.

It's simple. Their self-image (how they view themselves) doesn't live up to their decent body image (the way the rest of the world sees them), and they're insecure. There are also still some people who fear that the camera will steal their soul!!

I dont think that they are really afraid to have their picture taken. They just say that because they want people to say that they arent ugly. Then that way they will feel even better than before.

Because of the risk of looking bad. Even the best looking person can take a bad pic and it might damage the ego or they don't feel they are attractive and don't want others seeing them.

low self-efficacy on their reproduced looks. some people may be hot, but have never been positively reinforced as a child to believe in themselves, and grew up having a mindset that is defeatist, even if they could do anything.

Because every time I get my picture taken I blink or something...I don't have a single picture of me that I like.
So when someone tries to take a picture of me, I freak out and make them turn off the camera! ;)

They have low self-esteem, and while other people may think they are pretty, they never believe you. So I wouldn't take pictures of them unless they are in a good mood.

I guess it all depends on your own self image. What other people see and what you see in the mirror can be two seperate things.
