This is a sweet question..=]
Setting something (or someone) you love free, means to let them live their life without you and even if they don't ever come back to you. And that's real love. But hoping they come back, just because you love them, doesn't mean it'll happen. I think you shouldn't set it free with the hopes that it will come back to you...because then you have your heart and mind fixed on the idea that they will be returning when in reality they might not. And that is something that hurts very, very much.

It depends. I won't set my pets free, hoping they will come back, because I'm here to protect them. Same thing with my children. If it's another adult, you really have no choice, people will do what they want to. The best thing you can do is be there to offer a shoulder to cry on, if it doesn't work out. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

i am assuming you are talking about someone that you love. Yes if all the person is doing is rejecting you and looks like they want to move on, then let them go. If you dont then you are going to miss out on life because you are too wrapped up trying to get that person back... Easier said than done but holding on to someone that doesnt want to be with you just ends up with more heart break. But then the question if you let it go in hopes of it returning one day then are you really letting go? I say let it go and hope for something better. good luck

If you really love something there are no strings attached when you set it free. You set it free because that is whats best to do.

That's what Sting sang about, of course that's not the way it works in real life. If you set something or someone you love free, it's been my experience you can pretty much kiss it goodbye!

It depends on what is the "something" ?
If it is a person, then yes, I would set it free if she is not happy with me regardless how much I love her.
