yes don't listen to your friend. any dog can be trained. labs are known chewers, just make sure the pup has plenty of it's own toys to play with and chew on. get a crate for the puppy and keep the pup in it when you are gone or can't observe what the pup is doing. this will help keep the pup safe and keep your house in one piece.

So you got a dog without researching the breed? You don't know how big the dog will get? Did you look at the parents? Did you talk to the person you got the dog from?

My first suggestion would be to visit the AKC web site and research Labrador Retrievers. If you think this dog will be "too big" then you should return him.

If you decide to keep him, I'd invest in a crate. Then I go to the bookstore and buy some books about basic housebreaking. Research raising a puppy on the Internet. Look at petfinder. There's tons of information out there.

Then once your pup has been vaccinated, find a good obedience class and enroll ASAP.

If you treat your pup like a 4 legged toddler and never leave him alone, crate him when you aren't playing with him or paying attention to him, take him to obedience classes and work with him... he won't "destroy everything". He won't have the ability to "destroy everything" because if he starts to chew something, you will see it and correct him.

If you leave him unattended and do not train him, he will get into trouble with you. That is YOUR fault not his. He does not know what is right or wrong and what he should or should not chew.

Get the books, start reading and go to class with him. It's a lot of work but worth it.

All pups, all breeds can be destructive if not trained.

Labs do get fairly large. Labs typically range from 55-70 for a female and 65-80 lbs for a male.

labs can b destructive (ive had 2) but if u treat them right and when they are still young take them to puppy school it's the best thing u can do and if u leave them alone make sure there is nothing 4 them to destroy. If u treat them right and like u dont leave temptations for them to destroy and u take them to a good puppy school and practice wat u learn then they are very quick learners(so make sure u no wat ur doing). They are wonderfull dogs and as for size Males - 56- 57 cms (22 - 22.5 inches)
Females - 54.5 - 56 cms (21.5 - 22 inches)
Hope this helps oh and 1 other thing they love their food so dnt give them snacks and read then back of the dog food to see how much to feed them and regular exercise(it's also a good way to socialize them its good to do it wen they r young but make sure hes had all his shots b4 u go out)

labs are willing learners. You must establish yourself as the leader of the pack. When i got my golden i was told to play and then hold her on her back and grab her neck. As cute as they are do not let them sleep in the bed with you. They will grow and they will think they are the leader. Make sure you constantly are looking in their ears and looking at their teeth and make them sit still for it. As far as chewing goes we got s spray bottle that shot a jet stream and filled it 1/4 with vinegar and the rest water . When she woudl chew on the furniture we woudl spray the vinegar at the furniture. She soon learned what she could chew and not chew. Dogs need a leader to be happy. You need to be the leader

all dogs destor things as puupies and grow big (except some dogs (like weiner)stay small) and of course it is possible to train him!! labs are very smart and a re actually among the esiest to train..just remember to use positive encouragement(like treats) instead of negative(like kicking or hitting) if you arent sure what to do..go to your local petsmart and they have puppy training classes with you and your dog good luck with your lab!

All dogs can be trained. You have to remain consistant. It takes a dog 30 times to learn one activity. Keep at it everyday and don't give up.

I have owned Black Labs and they are easily trained, gentle dogs. I have also known Golden Labs that were just as great!!!

My friend has a Labrador and she is one of the sweetest dogs
I have ever seen. I think how a dog acts has a lot to do with
how well you train them and what your expectations are.

If you like the dog, I wouldn't worry about what a friend says.

Any dog can be trained. Just remember that while you are training the puppy he will do somethings that may upset you. It is after all a puppy.
