Christianity just like science learns more with discoveries, most scientist actauly become chrisitian after realizing how much "chance" there is in things. Christians aren't scared of evolution, we jsut know it's not true. There is a natural Evolution that happens as we live, which accounts for the close breeds and species, but we believe we were put here by god and left to evolve, mentally and physically.

When 'Creationists' try to debunk evolution, they put forward a version of evolution which is rather far removed from the commonly accepted scientific theories. That's the crux of the problem -- they are poking holes in a chimera they created.
My frustration is with this refusal to talk about the actual processes of evolution or accepted scientific models/understandings of it. I'm not scared of this. I would just like to be able to have a reasonable conversation.
I know enough about religions to talk coherently, more or less (ask my date from Saturday ;-) about creation. Personally, my current working hypothesis is that the 6000 year mark is about the development of civilization in the region, and perhaps some specific milestone and that the story in Genesis is a conflation of cosmology/evolution and the time when people realized that naming things was cool.
I expect people who are criticizing scientific theories and models to have a good enough understanding to discuss what science actually puts forward. The theory of evolution that creationists knock down only exists in their minds. The rest of us know that it works in a different way.

I answered this one already, so here it is again.
Creationism is not science, it is pure religious propaganda
The study of Evolution is pure science. It is not yet 100% proven, that is why it is still referred to as the theory of Evolution.
Scientists are people who deal in facts, empirical evidence, that is why even though the scientific community is convinced that evolution is real. As in any scientific study until all data has been thoroughly investigated and tested, scientists being open minded will never try to pass it of as truth (unlike religion there is no room for faith let alone blind faith).
But day by day as new data comes and supports the theory, we are becoming more and more convinced that evolution is right.
Creationism is not even presented as a theory. With no evidence and no data, it is based solely on a religious tome of dubious heritage. Creationism is being presented as 100% fact and called by those who perpetuate this lie an undeniable and unchallengeable fact.
This is not just wrong, it sets a dangerous precedent. If the creationists can get away with teaching this nonsense in schools, can you imagine what they will try next.

If evolution is just a theory, then so is God - just a theory, not to mention intelligent design and creationism. The difference, is evolution is supported by evidence and the latter are supported by hearsay.

the reason that many religious people "see the many holes in evolution" is because they cant prove there own religion so they attack gaps in scientific knowledge. religion has stopped moving, nobody (exept crazy people) are writing new new testiments, but science is constantly finding new things, BUT WE DONT KNOW EVERYTHING YET. im sick of people asking stupid questions that science hasn't proven. yes, we may not know the answer, but that dosen't mean that we never will

I personally dont think it matters much. The only important Christian beleif is Jesus dying for our sins and resserecting. Both make sense if veiwed in certain lights, but its basically imposssible to get a decent appraisal of the debate. The only person who could give you a good book on the topic is a person who, like myself, dosent care. Every side uses annoying half-truths to support there Ideas and deletes things that dont conform.

The basic idea of science is that we can understand phenomena. If that assumption is wrong, then everything science is no more or less worthless than any other pursuit.

It may be a valid idea, as ideas go, but since it's based on an assumption that cannot be tested or verified, it's not science.

Mostly because the Earth really doesn't seem to be 6,000 years old. Also, intelligent design doesn't survive logical criticism.
