I have 2 kittens that are about 5 months old. One of them always hides/sleeps under the bed when he goes to have a nap for some reason. When I get home, he will always jump at me, ask to be picked up, and then knead me and lick my face for a good 10 minutes straight, and he always comes out to play, chase and wrestle the other cat, etc, but when he gets tired, he generally hides under the bed. He is always on my bed with me when I wake up in the morning. Why does he do this? He obviously isn't afraid of anything; is it just because he likes the quiet/enclosed area under the bed? The other kitten wants to be around me and in my face 24/7. Any suggestions?

No, as far as I know he has never been stepped on. I live in 1 bdrm apartment by myself so there isn't much action going on.
The cat that hides under the bed is the same cat that is obsessed with licking my face and headbutting me. I think he watches me sleep because as soon as I open my eyes he starts to do this to greet me in the morning

Personality differences, that's all. Just like with humans, animals have personalities. He sounds like a hoot, though.

Have fun with him.

Well the kitten who likes to be under the bed probably likes to be in a tight inclosed area, it is fine that he is there, it is normal, It is just his comfort zone, and as for the kitten who is obsessed with your face, he is just showing affection, but if it gets to out of hand try this, You might tap her on the end of the nose and tell her no or block her from licking you in the face with your hand.

He probably just likes it under the bed. My 7 year old cat sleeps under the bed all the time.

Did you get him from a shelter? He might have been born outside and likes to sleep where he feels safe. I have a kitten that is 7 months old. She was born outside and still likes under the bed. She was found under a porch. Just a thought.

If he was wild then he is not use to human contact at all. To me he obviously understands you are good or else he would not purr or let you hold him. But he is not quite ready for you to go to him yet. My advice would be not to chase him but just be patient and give him time to choose to come to you and slowly he should start to trust you over the weeks and will be more likely to come to you. Do not give up yet he is so young and probably scared and just needs some time. Get some toys and play with him.

Yes it is most likely that he likes the dark, enclosed area. I have ten cats and they all love sleeping in boxes and under my bed

Some cats just like a quiet place away from everything just to snooze.

Maybe he has been stepped on and hides for security when sleeping. All animals have their own quirks. As long as it lets you play and pet it I wouldn't worry. He might even change as he gets older. m

he's obviously very comfortable under there, and the way he acts is just his personality not all cats are the same.
