I had two older 12" L7's in my car in a ported box, i can only get about 1.5ft2 per sub, but im looking for something that hits harder now, should i go with one 12" solo x? its about the same price as the two L7's? i would of course switch amps to match the solo x. im trying to stay in the 350-400 $ range

Its going in a trunk of a 3000gt so its a hatch. I only have a total of 3 cubic feet of space. Thats mostly the problem.

go with the Solo X killer in the SPL events. that would be the Pioneer 5000SPL. best kick on the block. sorry to tell you man, but KIcker is overated cause of there dumb square design. you might also want to look into RE audio. there "xxx" woofer is awesome, and is not as much cash.
good luck, shop around, cause if you dont, you'll be wanting to upgrade again. and out more money.

I have 1 solo x in a focus hatch that hits roughly 157dbs. If u want LOUD go with 2 12" solo x or 1 15" solo x. But make sure u have enough power to cover the wattage.
