Right after college I had this crappy job managing inside salespeople, There was one woman who wouldn't call a number if it had 3 or more sixes in it. She had to keep a separate pile of all the cards she refused to call so somebody else could do it.

UFO, that is a good point. I never thought of it that way. She always claimed that she had extra protection from Jesus, so you would think she would have gone ahead and made the calls.

I worked with a woman who would freak out if anyone got near her feet with a broom... one day a guy touched her feet with a broom to tease her and she was so upset she had to leave work... how nuts is that?

I don't think this beats the three 6's in a phone number, but I found it interesting. It is a Greek superstition that you must leave the house from the same door you came in. If you do not, and the home has a single daughter in the family, she will never marry. I'd love to find out the origin of that one!

I did a lesson with elementary children about decomposers and other things in the ground, so I brought in worms for the children to touch and examine. (You'd think that'd be almost every kid's dream, right?) I had several students who refused to do it, because their grandparent, parent, etc. told them they were not allowed to. After asking other teachers, I finally found out that there is a Hispanic superstition to not touch worms.

I always heard that you are not supposed to wash clothes on New Year's day, and someone will die if you do.

*Sigh*

It caused a stir in the fam when my mom was caught washing clothes on New Years day. lol

Its funny how that woman was passing the buck about the 6s. I guess she was too good a christian to care what happened to the next person who had to make the calls.

There was a Wiccan guy in my husband's college dorm who would absolutely flip out if anyone put a hat on a bed. No one was ever sure quite why.

Now really Mullah, you've found a sneaky way to tempt people here to answer "believing in a monotheistic god!" - so I doubt I'll even finish this before something like it has been posted!
