The prescription dose was 2 Aleve twice a day before it was made an over the counter med. I have taken this dose for about 5 years now. My kidney is now beginning to have some renal insufficiency, and I had to get a heart bypass in July. Both are possible side effects of this medications long term use. To OD for a week should not be a real problem.

You should be ok as your doctor told you to do so...don't do it more than the 3 days though without checking with him, Naproxin, the main thing in Alleve is hard on the liver. If you're still have the headaches, I would hope he'd look into it a little more.
Are you congested with a stuffy nose? If so, it could be a sinus headache and a cold medicine with a decongestant could help yout headache as well.
As for Over dosing, it would take a quite a bit, your 6 a day isn't at all close.

Contact your doctor if you experience blood in vomit or bloody, black, or tarry stools. These symptoms could indicate damage to the stomach or intestines, which could be dangerous.
Many over-the-counter cough, cold, allergy, and pain medicines contain aspirin or other medicines similar to naproxen (such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and others). Before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicine, talk to your doctor and pharmacist.
Patients who are taking over-the-counter naproxen products (Aleve) should follow the instructions on the label. Do not exceed the recommended over-the-counter doses for naproxen (220 milligrams twice daily) and do not take naproxen for longer than ten days unless a physician directs otherwise.
Take naproxen with food, milk, or an antacid to lessen stomach upset.
Do not crush or chew the extended-release forms of naproxen (e.g., Naprelan, EC Naprosyn, others). Swallow them whole. These are specially formulated to release slowly in the body. Ask your pharmacist if you do not know if you have an extended-release formulation.
Avoid alcohol or use it with moderation. If you drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day, naproxen may increase the risk of dangerous stomach bleeding. Talk to your doctor before taking naproxen if you drink more than 3 alcoholic beverages a day.
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Naproxen may cause dizziness. If you experience dizziness, avoid these activities.

Do you have other symptoms? One weekend I helped a friend clean out his rental property and I wore a dust mask to protect myself. Fat little good that did. The next day I had a severe migraine headache and I had to drive 5 hours. I took about 10 tylenols. I got to the doctor and I had an upper respiratory virus and I was prescribed antibiotics.

Personally I would follow your DOCTORS advice and not any of the advice the people give you here.. most of them read it off the bottle and are not professionals like your doctor is. He is in charge of your care.. if your are very worried, call and talk to a pharmacist.. they are trained to help you.
