If you don't have a lot of money, you shouldn't get a dog. To properly care for a dog costs hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a year. Why would you purposely want a "cheap" dog from a breeder? Do you not think that quality of dog may be correlated to the cost?

Also, there is no such thing as a teacup dog. They are simply substandard for breed traits. BYBs put "teacup" at the front to trick people that don't know any better to think they are some sort of special breed, when in reality they just aren't up to breed standards.

Why is everyone looking for cheap "teacups". No one seems to understand that the word teacup is a liscence to charge mega dollars. Even if you happen to find a cheap one, it probably wont be cheap later on. My 3lb chihuahua injured her leg by just jumping off the couch, because her legs are soo fragile due to her size. In the next year, she will need a $1500 operation. Not so cheap now....
Apart from that, teacup dogs do not exist. Size variation exists in any breed, so there are some smaller than others, but a teacup dog, in any breed, is not a type of dog. Any breeder using this term is trying to rip you off. No reputable breeder will ever use it.

understand that a teacup anything is not a true breed. any breeder advertising teacup's is not a reputable breeder and is often breeding small sized toy breeds. this does nothing but promote poor health and temperaments. a toy dog is small enough, and smaller than that usually will end up being nothing but a money pit of medical bills and heartache from you. here's a list of akc toy breeds you can check out their standard size and characteristics and find one that suits your needs. research any breeder you buy from. you should never buy from a petstore, or any breeder that advertises teacups, or you cannot see where the pup was raised and at least one parent. make sure your breeder health and temperament screens the breeding pair. good luck. do your research it will be better for you and the dog in the end.

The purchase price of a dog is just the first of many expenses you can expect to pay. The cost of food, shots, bedding, toys, monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative are astronomical. You can expect to spend about 300.00 immediately after purchase for immediate needs and vetting. (Only for a small dog, the larger the dog, the more you can expect to spend.) You can expect to spend at least 40.00 monthly for a small dog.

Purchasing a cheap dog will cost you more in the long run. Two of our rescue dogs have had to have serious surgery, one a new hip and one laser eye surgery, costing over 2500.00/each. You have to plan for the worst and decide if medical needs are something you can provide for a dog.

Please consider all these things, and if you are ready to purchase or adopt a dog, check www.petfinder.org or contact your local kennel club for a recommendation for a reputable breeder.
