Apparently many children have invisible "friends." An example of one such friend of a child was used by Richard Dawkins in his book "The God Delusion" to explain where the human idea of God or gods comes from. It is in chapter 10 of the book and the child's name for his friend was "Binker." Although I do not accept Dawkin's reasoning I accept that children sometimes need a make believe friend if they feel deprived of friendship in real life.
It is something to think about. Perhaps your child does not get as much attention from his parents as he senses you give to the person you call "Jesus" so he invents him to compensate. Children have no idea of what a god means but have a great need to be loved. The point Dawkins stresses so much is that teaching children to "love God" and "have faith" is mental child abuse because they can have no idea what you are talking about.

Well, unfortunately, that's about as unlikely as him saying its' name is "sock." The christian Jesus doesn't have time to spend on a dying young man, let alone a child. But there goes my evil sentiments again; there's plenty of good in Christianity, besides that. Anyway, if your child says that their friend is a deity of some sort, double check, and then ask them what he/she/it looks like. If it matches, then believe them and encourage their ability to see what others can't. It's a gift so precious few of us have anymore.

I actually had Jesus as a playmate as a child. I would set tea parties and have a special place for Jesus - He went everywhere with me. And the great thing was it wasn't pretend - He really was there (and still is)! Encourage the child to talk to Christ.

Ask him how he knows that it is Jesus. P.S. How old is the kid?
