I have a connective tissue disease and am currently taking plaquenil and Imuran. But the muscle pain is still pretty bad and I take darvocet, advil, and soma to help manage it, but it just doesn't cut it, it still hurts. I am also diabetic.
I would really like to try prednisone to see if it can cut down on my inflammation but my rheumatologist doesn't want to do it unless it's absolutely necessary since it may increase my blood sugar as a side effect.
My diabetes is pretty much under control for now anyways, with medicine for it also, and I wanted to know how much prednisone can effect sugar levels? is it dramatic and will always happen? or just a small chance that would be worth the risk? thank you.

I have diabetes and they tried prednisone and found out it interfers with the medication for diabetes so I couldn't use it. ask your doctor about aleve or neurontin as I used both for pain and they work well.

As a former prednisone user, I would highly discourage you from that drug. I am not diabetic so I don't know of any interaction with prednisone and diabetic meds. Here's a source to help you be better informed.

Please just contact your dr. You'll need to anyway to gt the prescription. My dad took prednisone and his face and neck ballooned up in size.
