And the real answer is... He chose it as a symbol because wine was something of long-standing value in liturgical ceremonies of Jewish people.

I dont believe its all about the wine......because for communion people dont get drunk on it.... Its just to represent HIS Blood, that HE shed for us!! Some churches, dont use wine, they use GrapeJuice, because there are too many Ex-Alcoholics in the world today, that converted over..... But, in Jesus' Day,...Jesus & His Apostle's didn't sit around and get drunk on wine.... And the bible talks alot about drinking too much, and how its not a good thing, to consume alcohol for fun!! In bible terms, its written differently.... But in Proverbs, you'll see alot about those who get drunk, and what they will reap, and so on...... So, its okay to take wine for communion, if its only a sip or two from those little itty bitty cups......I forgot what there called.... Maybe, you can suggest to your church to give Grape Juice, for the kids, under age..... Hey you could start a new trend, for your church, and that's a "Positive One" too.... Good Luck to you hun..... Smile!!!

Yes. Grapes must be crushed to release their juice. This is remniscent of the torture He would suffer in the coming hours. There was a study about the elements that I saw once, but it was long ago, and I'm afraid I don't remember much else about it. Something about the yeast is also relevent, though.

The Wine becomes his blood. It meant to show how the body and blood would be separated on the cross. the sixth chapter of John explains it. He gives us the answer in John 6:53. We can use the wine to drink his blood every Sunday. A priest is able to do it.

" The fig tree putteth for her green figs , and the vines with the (tender grapes give a good smell )" Song of Solomon 2:13. At a certain time when grapes are young they put off an odor that wards off snakes. And you know who that old snake is don't you ?Jesus calls us to work in His vineyard and satan want us to work in the pig sty.

We actually use grape juice in our church. It is a symbol. He wants us to take the wine for remembrance of Him and what He did on the cross His body was broken for us, and His blood was shed for us...for forgiveness of our sins. : )

I have been browsing more than four hours today looking for answers to the same question, and I haven't found a more interesting debate like this. It's pretty worth enough for me.

Because wine pemanently stains. We must be permanently stained with the blood of Christ in order to be made pure and holy.

Maybe. A lot of things Jesus did had a ton of layers to it. I'm sorry I can't directly answer your question. It was a common drink for them.
