Hm...you say your kitten is 5 months old? well, the apropriate time to switch to cat chow is around 9-12 months of age.Your kitten might prefer a different type of food but if you switch to cat food to early, she may get sick and start throwing up the food.I have a kitten name Simba who is about 6 months old and when I ran out of his kitten chow,I fed him cat food and he ended up LOVING it.But there was a down side to this because it made him throw up every time he ate to much of it.It won't harm your cat if you allow her to try a small amount of the food, but just don't feed it to her every day. That may affect her health. She may become addicted to the substance and excpect it every day for supper but you cannot give in to her,it is for her own safety. If you are not satisfied with my answer then call a vet for more information.

I had the same problem when I adopted a kitten. The food won't hurt either one of them (most of the kitten vs. cat food is just a marketing scam) but it is important that each one gets enough/not too much (usually kittens have control to stop and adult cats may not, especially those rescued in adulthood). If you can, feed both a high-quality wet food (Innova, Wellness, Avoderm, etc.), in different rooms (doors shut!). That way you don't have to worry about the stealing as you would with dry food that you leave out. Plus, high quality wet food beats out dry any day.

You should feed your kitten...kitten food until they are a year old. This food has more crued protein that adult foods do and the kitten needs that to get all the nutrients they need. At the age of one, give it cat food. Check the Eukanuba and Science Diet foods. They both have kitten foods and they are both very good vendors. I am a huge fan of Science Diet. Science diet also has Indoor Formula. I am not sure if you have an indoor/outdoor or vise versa, but Science Diet is really good. If you are paying that much for Iams, then Science Diet and Eukanuba are not that much more expensive if at all more. You can get either of them at major chain pet stores like Petsmart or Petco. Most vets offices carry one of the two. Good Luck, but feed it the kitten food until 12 months.

Kitten food or catfood they will get bored with it. I fed my kittens kitten food up until they were 1 year old they need the vitamins to grow healthy and get strong, you might need to go longer or no so long you can ask your vet there opinion. I feed my cats Science Diet hair hairball control light 1 cat gets for seniors and 1 gets for average cats catfood and if I try to give them a different kind they won't eat it. I think they get bored and buy small bags every once in awhile to give them a change but they won't eat it. Theyjust look at me like I've lost my head.

Kittens have to be on Kitten Chow for their first year. If I were you just change the brand. My kitty likes Meow Mix Little Nibbles. There are lots of other options besides Iams. Hope this helps you out.

Try a different brand of kitten food. At any rate, keep her on the kitten food until she's about a year old. They keep growing up until that age.

8-12 months is a good time to switch kittens to an adult cat food. Always consult your vet before making any changes, though.

Just a suggestion: Pick up a small bag of Meow Mix Seafood Medley. Set a dish for your cat and see if it likes it. Our full grown cats go nuts for it. Occasionally our old mixed breed German Shepard / Beagle snares a bite on her way out to take a walk. Good Luck, Lisa Cat!
