Do you not find it significant that the Catholic Church is, in today's world, the only "organization" (if we could call it that) that promotes and defends the sanctity and dignity of human life in its integrality? Yes, other religions and faiths do defend some of the basic human and moral values upon which society has been built in the past, but none of them defends them in their integrality. I'm not saying this to attack anyone else's belief. I'm just stating that there is food for thought here. All of the Churches have capitulated or compromised on some aspect of moral or doctrinal truth (whether it be the authorization of same-sex "marriages", the acceptance of artificial contraception, or even -- more profoundly -- the denial of Christ's Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist). Only the Catholic Church has stood firm and defended these truths even to this day. Perhaps we should ask why this is the case, instead of asking your question as to the "evil" character of the Catholic Faith.
Good luck in your search.

It is clear beyond possibility of doubt that the Roman Catholic religion as now practiced is the outgrowth of centuries of error. Human inventions have been substituted for Bible truth and practice. Intolerance and arrogance have replaced the love and kindness and tolerance that were the distinguishing qualities of the first century Christians, so that now in Roman Catholic countries Protestants and others who are sincere believers in Christ but who do not acknowledge the authority of the pope are subject to all kinds of restrictions and in some cases even forbidden to practice their religion. The distinctive attitude of the present day Roman Church was fixed largely by the Council of Trent (1545-1563), with its more than 100 anathemas or curses pronounced against all who then or in the future would dare to differ with its decisions.

I'm not going to sit here and say that members of the Catholic faith have never been responsible for the deaths of others. Fanatics within the Church did indeed kill those who didn't agree with them.
But let's not forget the Protestants who also killed Catholics in England and other countries. Elizabeth I executed nearly three times as many Catholics as "Bloody Mary" killed Protestants during her reign. (See the reference below for further details.)
There will always be fanatics in any church. Don't condemn the entire Catholic church for the actions of the few, and don't forget that Protestants have done their share of murdering in the name of religion, too.
