I would think that spotting planes would be the better course, at most airports there are hundreds of flights per day , where there might only a few trains coming thru the train station.
Congrats on the retirement, I have "retired" twice, once from the military, once from various employers, now I am self employed, and work harder, longer than ever before. look forward to the day when I can permanently retire and enjoy traveling I planned on when I got the plane.

Personally i love plane spotting , i
love airports and if you live near one you have a great opportunity there
.
Now that there are so few steam trains ,
and trains are so erratic with timetables all over the place ,i think i would get bored with that soon.
the continues arrivals and departures of planes now ,
is still fascinating and recordable .
why do you not try both hobbies
join a plane spotters club and a train spotters club too .
then you can choose ,which you find the most enjoyable
You do not need an anorak ( that is just a rumour ) ...
Good luck

I actually have executed both many cases. both would properly be various relaxing. both would properly be tedious at cases. a huge huge difference, for sure is why you're travelling, even if that's all about the destination or extra about the adventure, and obviously how a lot time you've free. And for lengthy journeys, except you pay cay the tremendous money for drowsing motor vehicle, it would also be a count number of ways lengthy you may stand to bypass and not using a bath. i might want to in many cases opt to take a custom yet time in many cases dictates otherwise - even with if the IS a custom to the position i go.

depending on your location i would choose airplanes but if you have a busy rail line near you than train but i dont see any harm doing both my airport police are pushy about the 9-11 rules they will tell you that you cant take be there but if your on public property than you can stay but check your laws just to be sure trains are easier most police wont bother you but railroad police might roll by to see what your up to thats all they do
remember if your not doing anything wrong they cant do anything

It's easier to get dramatic photographs of trains then airplanes. I'd recommend learning to fly and flying formation; that's the best way to take pictures of airplanes.

we just got back from Seattle on a plane, the views were very scenic but I think you would see more from the ground on a train.

why planes or trains! spot girls. they're more fun and rewarding! if u spot a hot one and she's interested, that's it! fun! if u're damn rich u should fly a plane, not spotting one!
