Having the exact same problem today! I fell asleep in a semi sitting position with my head and neck at an odd angle and ended up putting my neck out of place. Laying in a flat position on my back with the help of a flexeril and a heating pad has gone a long way so far today in alleviating the situation, still waiting for the muscles to relax enough to allow the neck to go back into place though, once that is achieved, I'll be facing just a couple of days of muscle tenderness but that will not be so bad in comparison to this, and tylenol will take care of that discomfort. This has happened to me several times already, so I know what I am talking about by now, and you would think I would have learned my lesson about falling asleep while watching TV! LOL!
But under no circumstances allow someone to attempt to "pop" it back in for you, it is dangerous and should be reserved only for a proffesional chiropractor. Just take the day off and try the method I have used, it takes some time and you have to relax and just lay flat for the day and let others pamper you. It will resolve itself after a time, just be sure to for the next several days sleep in a flat position with your neck well supported so as not to let it slip back out again. Good luck, to both of us!

Check out your pillow. If it's too full, you may be sleeping in an awkward position causing strain on your shoulder and neck. You should be sleeping in the same position your body is in when you stand. Take some aspirin to reduce inflammation (with food) and a nice hot shower. You can also support your arm on your sore side at night and that will take some of the strain off of your neck. God love ya.

me too. I must have slept with my head at a bad angle. I've got my neck brace on so my neck muscles can relax.
