I am one of the world's biggest chickens. I list PAIN as one of my allergies. I am also a talker. I can gab about anything. Most of the time when drawing blood they use a baby needle. Ask that they use one. You will sit an a chair but if you are very nervous they can let you lay down. There will be a tourniquet put on your
arm and most likely they will give you something to squeeze to get a vein to pop up. Just look away and keep talking. If the person who is drawing the blood is good you won't feel a thing.
Have you ever accidentally stuck your finger with a needle? That is how bad it hurts. By the
time you think about saying "ouch" the needle is in. The pain is not horrible, it just stings a little bit. Just keep still and keep on talking. Rattle away about your Favorite Movie Star, favorite song,
worst teacher, greatest teacher, etc. It will be over before you
know it. And yes your Mum can come with you.

Yes your mom can go with you. It is very quick make sure you tell them you are afraid of needles they will take pity on you. Don't look still with your eyes closed and count back wards or sing a song in your head. They will tell you when they are done. They will wash area then put the needle in then this is kinda cool they have test tubes that attach to the needle and they just change them for how many they need. NO second needle. The needle is quite small not a huge monster thing like you think(it is smaller than the ones they use at the dentist to freeze your mouth). I can't watch them put it in but once its in I usually look because it doesn't hurt it just fills up. when they are done they will clean the area and send you on your way.It only takes a couple minutes.

You will sit in a chair with a little table in front of you. Nice and comfortable. Then they will put a rubber hose around your arm to hold your blod still (pinches slightly). He will get a plastic container with a needle and some test tubes. At this point I always look the other way and close my eyes, you will feel a pinch or pinprick then he will put each test tube in one at a time. You never have to see the blood. Then he buts a cotton ball and holds it on by tape leave it on for an hour. Now the worst part - pull off the tape - its like pulling off a bandaid (hurts for a few seconds)
And there you are, easy a pie

I have taken phlebotomist classes and to be honest with you i am very squeamish as well. i cannot stand the sight of myself getting my blood drawn. usually afterwards i get sick and have to sit there for a half hour. if you are really bad i would suggest laying down during the process and try to focus on something else if possible. if you get a good phlebotomist to draw your blood it shouldn't take long. although with one of mine she kept sticking the needle in my arm and kept getting nothing, she was new. they than had to have another one come who was more experienced. i sat there getting poked for 15 minutes, well i ended up getting really sick and vomiting. wasn't pleasant. just try not to think about it read a magazine, have someone hold your hand and talk to you, or if there is a t.v. in the room watch that.

OH AND IF YOUR 3 OR 80 YOUR MOTHER CAN COME IN WITH YOU OR ANYONE ELSE YOU PREFER.

I used to draw blood for a living. My best advise is to think about something else, do tricky multiplication in your head. If your phlebotomist is good, he or she will talk with you while they do their job to take your mind off of it. Yeah, it might sting a bit. But if your mind is occupied elsewhere it wont be bad. If you can, drink plenty of water the day of your test. If you're dehydrated your vessels will be harder to find. Make sure with your doctor that drinking water is okay, usually it's not a problem if blood tests are all your doing. You'll be just fine!

I'm totally with you, and my veins suck so the fear is with me. Have your mommy hold your hand and make her promise to get you a lollipop afterwords. I'm 18 and yes i still do this. Then when you get the shot, they say it's like a bee sting, which never made me feel better by the way so once they say ok... start thinking about what kind of lollipop you want!

Your mother can come with you. It really just like a small prick. Just get your mom to distract you. Doing blood tests on children is actually very easy. We distract them with something, then prick them. Its over before they realize it.
