I absolutely love CATS, as i played Victoria (white lead dancing cat) for a season. It was the time of my life.
Some of my other favorites are Phantom of the Opera, Rent, West Side Story, Annie, Annie Get Your Gun, and Chicago.
I must say you have great taste!

Cats and The Phantom of the Opera are both very good. Cats has spectacular sets, costumes, music and dancing. The lyrics are taken directly from T.S. Eliot poems and have some class just for that reason--put together, though, they make a very good story (I don't understand people who say it has no plot...) about forgiveness and rebirth. The Phantom of the Opera has wonderful music, a terrific plot, and characters to wrench the heart-strings. I'm not as big a fan of Lion King because for me the Disney version pretty much trumps the stage production. The costumes are good, though. For me, a musical needs to have convincing characters, an interesting story, and, most importantly, great music (especially love songs and ballads). Other wonderful shows are Les Miserables (probably the best musical ever written), Wicked, Miss Saigon, most Andrew Lloyd Webber shows (such as Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita) and lots of others.

Phantom of the Opera, RENT, Aida, Jesus Christ Superstar. I love anything by Andrew Lloyd Webber and anything written by Elton John and Tim Rice. Aida is my absolute favorite Broadway musical. Because I liked it so much, I went and saw the Lion King (also Elton John and Tim Rice) and was suprised by how I much I enjoyed it. I thought that it would be very Disney-ish and exactly the same as the movie, but it wasn't. They did a very good job on it. Wicked was also amazing!

Anything by Sondheim, but particularly Sweeney Todd and Company. I also enjoy the off-broadway shows like the Last 5 Years, Grey Garden's etc. Basically anything that isn't commercial dross rolled out for the culturally barren tourist trade.

Phantom would be a great one, I never really liked Cats too much. My all time favorite (even though it's very contemporary) is Mama Mia.

the director i work w/ here is really a good writer, and she wrote a play called "medora". it took nine years, but its really good. and really fun to be apart of.
i can think of a million best musicals, but i cant write them all down, so i'll make best w/ that.
