You know I think this is an interesting question. I interviewed for a position in an "online" college however I wasn't very impressed even though it is legit. I believe that it is so hard to find a good college that actually finds professional teachers. I have heard from a few of my friends that they had great success doing online courses from major universities. One friend in fact is doing her Masters program online. There are a few classes that she had to do during night school however most where online. I took some from a community college also in my city.

I would make sure that the college is legit though before you sign that check. For instance, you can always go online to the BBB to see if the college really is legit (see below). If it were me, I would also make sure that I can go to the campus and see the advisor at least once also. This way, you can make sure that the college isn't just a few offices a someone trying to take your money. Also, double check to see if your professors will all have PHD's. That is very important - you don't want a non-professional "teaching" you for all your hard earned money.

Tonya had a good answer. You should also make sure that the Professor's degrees are not from the same school, which is one sign of a "Diploma Mill". John Bear also publishes a book on which schools are legitimate. One is: "Bear's Guide to Distance Learning"

The Better Business Bureau is one way or contacting your State's Board of Education. The wording should be similar to...

I found this school...(name) on the the web. Is it legit. If not located in your stae call the stae to which it claims to be based out of. Every school must have a physical location to recieve mail.
