In our ward in the summer time we have a breakfast in which the bishopric cooks and some other people cook. We have also started to have a brunch at Christmas time. We find it gets more people out than the dinner does. We have also had near Easter time an Easter egg hunt and would also have lunch to go with the hunt. They even did a candy canyon to go with the Easter egg hunt. Those are some of the activities that the whole ward can do and they get a big turn out. For smaller group activities you might have scrap bookings. You can invite the children and they can do something else. I know lots of people like to do scrap books. You could also write letters to the missionaries they always like letters and the children could draw pictures for them. More for the ward could be to do things like a talent show or a road show i have seen those before in the ward and they seem fun to just even watch or to participate in. Here is just a few things ideas there are a lot more that you could do as a ward and a small group out there.

In Young Women's we have:
Had "Conference Trivia" the week after conference and have each leader come up with 5-10 questions during each session
Had movie night - tonight we are watching Johnny Lingo
Had a "Bridal Fashion Show" we have the girls model modest wedding dresses and talk about eternal marriage
Drive near the temple and use dice to get there - a 2 - right turn, a 3 - two blocks then turn left...and show how certain choices can either lead to the temple or away from it, then end at the temple and have the girls write down characteristics they and their furture spouse need to have
For joint activites - YW/YM
We have had "Scripture Bowl"...trivia on the scriptures
Ice skating
Road clean-up
Dodgeball
The Plane Ride - you have seats set up in a room like a plane, you pretend the plane crashes and follow along what would happen next - meet ancestors, spirit paradise or prison - have several members come dressed in white, it's really neat

One of my favorite activities in California was doing a mystery dinner theater activity. That takes at least a month or two's worth of planning and rehearsing. If you are looking for activities that are faster to plan, here are some others:
1. Name that Hymn (like "Name that Tune" from old game show in the 1970s, where you have two teams who say the minimum number of notes they need to identify a hymn, plus you can add background history to the hymns)
2. With Valentine's Day coming up, you could have a Valentine making event and send them to missionaries out in the field with letters from people, or else take them over to local nursing homes to people there. You may include making and decorating cookies or cupcakes.
3. You could do a dinner related to what you are studying in Sunday School. There are a lot of ways to change the names of common foods to something else, like "Lamanade" for "lemonade" and stuff like that.
By the way, I think there is an activities handbook at the Distribution center.

If it is youth during the summer, an all-day BoM reading marathon is fun... Another fun activity is a ward ice cream social.

You could have people look into a dark hat and make up stories in old english. Then you could vote as to whose stories are the best, and publish a book of them. Then you could go around to people's houses and bother them on weekend mornings and try to make them read the stories.

Oh wait.... my husband told me that you guys already did something similar.
