Yes.

In some places, including one area I work in, AIDS is sometimes referred to as the 'slim disease';

referring of course to the AIDS wasting syndrome, or the severe weight loss from some of the opportunistic infections.

honey there is no nickname as such for hiv/aids
but yes if talkin in front of the patients, docs may use the term RVI or retroviral disease/infection to signify hiv infestion
