My father passed away. He was in a wheelchair his entire life and now we like to remember him as "walking in heaven with the angels" I want to get a small tattoo on my lower back that somehow represents walking with the angels, but I don't know what. I dont want something everyone has, or just an angel or his name and I want it to be small. I know I could talk to an artist, but i want to get some solid ideas. Any suggestions?

Ok, after the first answer, I want to make something clear - I WANT a tattoo, I just want something meaningful. Second, my dad was gonna go with me to get my first tattoo, so YES he wanted me to have one. Third, I don't think tattoos are trashy. Anyone who thinks they are are titled to their own opinions, but don't judge me. That's all.

honestly the only thing i can think of that would be a good tattoo and somewhat original but still small like you want is to have "walking in heaven with the angels" tattooed on you in a pretty script. if it were me i would go big and get a portrait of him walking in heaven with angels. it would be unique and amazing.

I don't really have an idea for what you should get (I'm not the most creative person on this earth), but I just want to tell you that I think this is really a good idea.
I know people who's gotten tattoos to remember their loved ones by, a certain symbol that meant a lot to them, or a phrase or a line that they used to say all the time, and I have yet to meet anyone who's regretted it. Because you get it as a memory and tribute to someone you love, you will also love the tattoo.
Good luck, and I hope you'll find a design that you'll like, and will be able to remember him by.

Think about what he liked-- you can incorporate his hobbies or great loves. Do a clip art search on what he liked and see if anything jumps out at you.
I personally would get something like a small portrait of your dad walking in the clouds, with a couple of angels side by side with him.
My best friend died a few years ago (we'd been friends since we were small children, so she was more like my twin sister...) and she LOVED Snoopy. I want to get a tattoo with Snoopy to represent her, but haven't totally decided how I want it yet.
Take your time, think about who and what you dad means to you-- and go from there.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am getting a memorial tattoo (very small) with a bouquet of flowers, each one representing a birth flower of family members I've lost. I am doing it in a way that I can add on to it over the years.
Just some ideas...
Take your time and really make it something you love.
My best to you!

I honestly don't see anything wrong with that. Just because Christians are associated with crosses does not have to mean all crosses represent Christianity. I actually wanted my first tattoo to be a cross with vines and roses wrapping around it because its a beautiful symbol. So no and honestly who cares about what people say you can get whatever the **** you want anyways. It's a memorial for your father, if anyone judges you then they don't deserve to give their opinion anyways. You may get some from the occasional Christian but who are they to judge their the most hypocritical of them all in my beliefs. (:

I was just sitting here waiting for an idea to come to me.....
Have a likeness of your father standing, with a wheelchair nearby, and have some beautiful angel wings on him, and have his arms up and out to the sides and him looking up a little and smiling, like he's rejoicing because he can stand and walk like everybody else. And maybe have some clouds and a glorious sun in the background. I think it would look wonderful. =0) Best wishes for the future!

first of all, i'm very sorry for your loss and i know how important this is to you. if you want it small, i suggest lettering tattoo like how you want it "walking in heaven with the angels" and that could be it because its personal, its for you, and its nobody's business to understand why or what its meant for. only you know it and that what makes it personal and special. just find nice lettering scripts, it will look so much better than a picture or a portrait if its small. if you want it a picture, it has to be big.
p.s. i love my dad too and i was thinking of getting his signature behind my ear.cos its personal, its for me, and nobody has to see it, or know it. :)
hope this helps.

I don't really have a solid idea, but what is one material thing that you connect with him in your mind? Ask your family if they, too think of him in connection to the object. Since you want the tattoo to be small, maybe you could have an image of the object above "Walking With The Angels" and his year of birth and death. If it's something you (and maybe even your family) can really connect to him, it might more meaningful than a run-of-the-mill angel.

You might want to have his wheel chair lifted up by a few angles and him standing there on clouds. As if the Angles have taken his wheel chair away because now he is free to walk on his own two feet. This is something that you will need to talk to an artist about and tell him or her what you are wanting to signify. GOOD LUCK!

I would probably get a tatoo of something he loved or liked to do. For example, say he loved Harley's, but could never ride one. I would get the Harley Davidson symbol tatooed.
Sorry for your loss................
