its not that you have to wait until shes older mayb if you find the right dog they would get along well, you should really think about getting an older dog like one or two years old cause a pupy would be a handful

You have to be careful when it comes to young kids and toy breeds, such as the Yorkie. Toy breeds really don't make good dogs for younger children, because the toy breeds are so delicate. If your child is very good with animals and can respect a dog's space, then you might consider it, but the average kid will accientely hurt a toy breed dog, and that will cause the dog to become either fearful or aggressive to the child. Neither one is a good situation. Also, a six year old child is too young to be responsible for the dog, so you are going to have to be OK with being the one who feeds, walks, grooms, and bathes the dog.
You might want to carefully consider why you had to "get rid" of the Pom and make sure that situation will never happen again.
There are lots of child friendly breeds out there that are still small but more sturdy. Here are some dogs that are recommended for children (at least according to this website) http://www.petplace.com/dogs/top-dog-breeds-for-families/page1.aspx
There are even some of the larger toy breeds listed!

Hope this helps...

I'm 13 and i have a Yorkie a teacup actually but anyways Ur daughter would love this type of dogs they may b really frightened at first but that will pass. i love yorkies so much especially since I'm the type who doesn't like to get up in the morning and well they wake up around 5 depending on the dog and how old it is old and young ones sleep all day and middle aged wake up early except mine she really likes to get up at 5 go 4 a walk and run run run. You may wanna think b4 getting 1 1st because responsibility is a key word to dogs, just remember vet costs getting it neutered or whatev if u want injuries that may occur feeding playing with and bathing really come in handy when taking care of a pet so i hope i helped and i hope ur daughter and u will love this dog that u get i know i love mine!

I dunno. It depends on the reason why you got rid of the other dog, and if you are ready for the responsibility of another dog. At 6 years of age, your daughter is already old enough to deal with little dogs. Just make sure you are getting a dog for the right reasons, and be ready for vet care and stuff.

Good luck.

The smaller the dog the bigger the bite maybe you should try a bigger dog because the small dogs fell more intimidated be humans because they r so small thinking they have to be real territorial because they r so small.

Buy a huge stuffed dog, that way your daughter can't accidentially hurt it, it won't accidentially bite her and it'll be much easier to get rid of. That's what I thing!
