i remember hearing about a quieter one, with the tail rotor being embedded into the tail (instead of being stuck on the side).
Also the weapons would retract to reduce noise and improve aerodynamics

The latest version of the apache is called the longbow. It's primary upgrades are digital avionics. The helicopter program with the tail rotor embedded in the tail was called the Comanche before it was canceled. The Comanche was suppose to use stealth features to make it comparable in force projection to the larger heavier armed Apaches. The tail rotor embedded in the tail reduce noise caused by the interaction of the turbulence form the tail rotor and the main rotor.

The next generation helicopter is called the Comanche and the code is RAH66, but actually it will not be a total replacement for Apache because Comanche will be a stealth model so it will not have the same firepower as Apache but it will be much faster and as I mentioned before it will be harder to pinpoint in radar.

yes commanchee. yes it was cancelled. no the apache isnt going to be replaced.

also i heard from a CW5 when he flew the commanche they had to slow the it down to 25MPH to deploy the weapons something about them not coming out and the aircraft becoming unstable... so that was several BILLION dollars flushed down the toilet

Yeah the Comanche... they even made a computer game around it (check Amazon.com).

this is the game publishers site for the game.

It is also the type helicopters that are in the Incredible Hulk movie.
