A "white" lab is just a really pale yellow lab. Labs come in just the three colors: Yellow, black, and chocolate. People tend to be a bit afraid of large, black dogs (something to keep in mind if you decide on a black one). Black dogs tend to make better protectors, though, for that very same reason.
Personally, I think chocolate labs are gorgeous! Just remember that labs are dogs with really long puppyhoods. They don't grow up until they are 2-3 years old. That's 2-3 years of chewing on your table legs, excessive energy, bouncing off the walls, and other puppylike behavior. Also, labs really do require lots of exercise (frequent long walks, lots of games of fetch, etc).
Good luck!

http://thelabradorclub.com/library/selectpuppy.html Please visit this website to start your serach for a lab. Labs are EXTREMELY prone to problems from poor breeding and bad genetics. DO NOT buy from a pet store, an ad on the Internet, an ad in the newspaper, or from anyone who isn't involved in the Lab world and isn't *at least* a member of their national breed club, and preferably, their local one as well.
I've heard of labs being put down as young as 6 months old due to severe hip dysplasia from poor breeding. Others are virtually immoble by the time they are 2. Do your homework and only use someone who follow ALL the guidelines of the Labrador Club of America and the AKC. This includes genetic testing and major health screenings. Even though you just want pets, this is still vitally important. http://dogplay.com/GettingDog/index.html
Get whichever one fits your needs and that you prefer. Beware people selling 'white' labs. This is a disqualification from the show ring as the only permissible colours are yellow, black, and chocolate. Anyone selling a dog as "white" is not a responsible breeder and should be avoided. If they don't know the proper terminology, they obviously don't know enough about the breed to be breeding.
Here is the AKC guide to breeding: http://www.akc.org/breeders/resp_breeding/index.cfm Again, if your potential breeder didn't follow each and every step, run away.
http://64.37.122.206/Info/questionstoaskabreeder.asp?menu=Info is a list of questions to ask a breeder. WHile this is for a different breed, you can modify them to fit Labs.
http://www.grca.org/acquiring.htm#choosingbreeder This is for Golden Retrievers, but the information is some of the best out there. Taking the time to be educated can prevent heartbreak and headaches int he long run.
And don't forget rescue http://www.petfinder.com - all kinds of labs come into rescue through no fault of their own. Consider saving a life by rescuing a needy homeless dog.
Good luck to you in your search.

There is no white..it is really a pale yellow. Well bred Lab only come in and are only recognized in 3 colors...black, yellow(pale to golden and an almost red-gold) & chocolate (which also can range in various shades with the milk chocolate color the most desirable)

There are not any white labs. They may be light colored but are yellow and not white. If you look at the link the person provides to White Spring Labs it says in the info on those whiter looking dogs that they are yellow. It sure does not say white.

They are the same dog, just different colors. Labs can actually have all colors (yellow, chocolate, and black) in one litter. The white is actually considered a form of yellow, as is the red fox which is a golden red color. My favorite color is the red fox and them the chocolates.

Yellow labs can range in color from what they call "fox red" to "light cream". Many labs that may look "white" from a distance or in a photo are actually light cream.
A truly white lab is not a permitted color----think of super-white like a white german shepherd.
a lab may have a small spot of white on its chest, and white/grey hairs because it is old LOL but no other white spots.
hope this helps

"White" labs are not really white but a very pale yellow.
The only allowed colors are yellow, black and chocolate.
If anyone claims to be selling a "white" lab, run away and buy somewhere else.
