I was raised a greek orthodox christian, but have always thought it was a little phony. I mean, we'd kiss icons, assuming that the saints could feel it up there in heaven. And the people would break as many commandments as they could during the week, chastise others, and then go to church on sunday and everything was okay. now, i'm on the verge of being an atheist or maybe a buddhist. i mean, i'm really into morals. I won't have sex with someone until i'm out of high school and love the person. no alchohol, no drugs, no violence. i'm a vegetarian. but... what do you guys have to say? i'd really like to know. maybe it can help me with my decision.

thank you so much

You might want to try Buddhism. It's nontheistic, and doesn't require a belief in any deity. Vegetarianism is highly encouraged in some schools of Buddhism, and most encourage abstinence from drugs and alcohol.

You sound like a wonderful, moral person and would make a great wife. But I am in the same feelings. Most customs done in religon is pagan. But they condem pagans. They are outraged over the death of the unborn. But think nothing of killing boys straight out of high school to keep the economy going.

I think that there are more religions that just "believers" and "non-believers". Leaving aside different major religions like Isalm, Christianity or Buddhism, there are many different sects within Christianity. If you feel that the one you were raised in was wrong, it does not necessarily mean they are all wrong.

Personally I feel that my religion is right, and everything I beleive makes sense to me. I hear a lot of people who join my religion, because it falls in line with the Bible and their beliefs than other religions. I am not saying I am right, but I am saying that their is some truth in all religions and many people are actively seeking the religion that has the most or all truth in it, and my advice is for you to do the same.

You're right, what you were brought up to believe in was phony. Morals are morals, but God is your answer to heaven. Read the Bible, you shouldn't have sex until you're married. You should NOT try and break all the commadments. This is not right. Going to Church does not ever make it okay to do those things. Pray to God, ask for forgiveness, REPENT. God will give you your answers then. God is HERE, you have to believe it!!! Please find your faith and help others to do so too. Also, God put animals on the earth for us to eat. Being a vegetarian does not make you a good person. I will pray for you that you become saved. I hope you find your answers (in GOD), God bless you, take care.

As a mode of community living, it has it's plus points.

However, when it starts to drive people's lives (there was a question on here just recently "Should I let my JW brother wed a catholic girl" ) then I want to destroy the whole lot of them.

Some of the things the more rabid groups (of many religions) brainwash children with is not far short of abuse.

Their are hypocrites in every aspect of life. You must not judge a religion on the followers but on the core teachings of that religion. Before you make a decision, you should read about all religions and find the one that most resembles you. I am a Christian, I believe in the Bible and all that is written in it. I hope you will find God in your seeking, and you shall be blessed.

Religion is a bit like same sex relationships in that it has always been with us throughout history--and always will be with us--however you sound like you have your act together--not running around like a lunatic--finger-pointing & condemning others to hell--so perhaps your best option at this point would be to investigate the philosophy of Buddhism --which is the path of understanding.--Good searching!!--:]

I think religion itself is a powerful and awesome thing, so many people draw strenght and peace from it. I truly believe that you should choose to whorship or not in whatever way will benefit you most even if it is unconventional. You don't have to box your beliefs into little packages labeled "buddist" "atheist" "christian" or anything else. Just draw whatever practices or beliefs that comfort you most from any religion.
