I am looking for a program in Windows XP (sp2) that will scan a document on my flatbed scanner. Windows IDs the scanner and installs a driver for it. The scanner had software that runs under 98se but the program will not install in XP and Canon, the manufacturer, will not even support it with XP drivers. I have noticed there is No Kodak imaging in XP. There is no program like it in XP? Does anyone know of a free program that will do the scanning?

info: Win XP(sp2), Canon FB630U (flatbed usb scanner)

Go to this Canon site. The second one down is a driver for Windows 2000 and XP for your scanner. You can download that driver, and that should get the scanner running on XP.

I had to do the same thing with my flatbed scanner, although it isn't a Canon. Takes a little more digging, but the drivers are out there. Good luck!

A driver is a program that allows your hardware to be made available on your system and hence allows other softwares to use it.
If there is no driver, the system will not be connected to the hardware. Hence you must have a driver installed before you can use the hardware.

Here is a list of links where you will find the driver:

From your Post, it SOUNDS like you're asking for a OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program, NOT a driver file.

*IF* you're trying to scan a document so that you can EDIT it and NOT simply make a pic of it, you need OCR software...

Check the link below for a free OCR program.......
