ya see the thing about this riddle is that it's saying 'IF' a Rooster laid and egg... so that makes me wonder if it's a hypothetical question. so maybe it's seriously asking the question. the question wants to know what if roosters could lay eggs? and if they could, which way would it roll?

It wouldn't matter... if a MALE rooster laid an egg, the egg would be gathered for scientific research before it rolled...

I'm assuming that you're assuming that the rooster laid an egg.
But the egg wont move. If it did, its because of your force when you placed the egg there.
Otherwise it'd be in a state of perfect balance!
(Assuming 0 winds or earthquake activity of course)
So ideally.. it wont go either way :)
