Hopefully you can find a band of dj to do a good mix. You need some oldies rock and roll, traditional waltzes and stuff, polkas, bunny hop and other crazy little dances like the macarena, decent pop, some country, --- just general dance music. Very few people will get up and have fun to Paris Hilton singing. But put on YMCA and your dance floor will be full, and everyone of all ages will have a great time.
By the way, if you have ethnic ties, make sure to play lots of your own ethnic music.
