I have a female puppy who is on Clavamox for a small infection found when taking out her spaying stitches. Since yesterday once in a while she gives off a "fishy" smell, being about two days after starting. I am calling the vet tomorrow morning, but did not know if this has occured with anyone else. Thanks!

Clavamox is an antibiotic and prescribed for fighting infections. The "fishy" smell you describe could be coming from the infected skin. Keep giving her the Clavamox as prescribed by your vet and it's good you have an appt.

I had a dog on Clavamox for a secondary skin infection associated with her mange. I didn't notice a "fishy" smell, but that could easily be from the infection. However, my boyfriend did notice that my dog's urine "smelled like antibiotics". I couldn't smell it myself, but that may be cause of the "fishy" smell you described.

Hope this helps...

The fishy smell could be from the infection, or it could your puppies anal glands (sometimes called anal sacs), it is often times described as a fishy smell. I work at a vet clnic, and i think it is one of the worst smells there is. Like fish and garbage mixed. If you think the smell is coming from her bum, that is probably what it is. If you think the smell is coming from her tummy, then it is probably from the infection. Good Luck, i hope you figure out what it is.

It may just be the infection coming through her pores. Sometimes when a dog has infections and its healing, it has to exit the body someway and through the pores is one way. I would say call your vet for more information.
