Some are. People love to ride around in expensive cars they probably can barely afford just so they can front. To them they have to be able to look down on others in order to make themselves feel good. Like, "look at me don't you wish you had it like this?".

Not a show of weath just a show of they have thier as s es in debt for the next 8 years. and by the time they finish paying off the car it wont be worth more than a couple of months payments. I have an 82 z28 camaro I paid a whole 800 for in 97 and wouldnt trade it for the world. My mechanic says if I keep the maintance up on it like I have it will proabably last another 20 years. and no car payments . When you see people driving really expensive cars on the road as you drive by ask them what in your wallet. It sure wont be cash

No. Times have moved on and in the grand scheme of things cars are relatively cheap. There are many UK people who earn in excess of £200 grand a year and so a car is not a strong device to display wealth. There are no cars of half a million up. Wheareas a couple of extra houses in the South of France and a biggish yacht in the Med - well now your'e talking

Most of 'em are just whatever people fancy in their budget. Most folks need a car of some sort to get about, & if you've got 50 grand to shell out on a fancy motor, why not? Why buy Nike trainers for 80 quid when the nice people at Asda will sell you ones that do the same job for a tenner?

No, they are predominantly an essential part of working and personal life. They allow you to visit people you would not normally see. They allow you to work in an area not necessarily where you live so it extends your opportunities.

People who drive the 4x4 'chelsea tractors' when they don't live in the country are just pretentious and is not necessarily a show of wealth but of their complete, and misguided self belief that they are more important than others.

In conclusion, cars are not a show of wealth but 4x4 'chelsea tractors' in the cities are just a show and their owners are just arrogant muppets

perhaps we should wait 1h20mins for a bus at 4am.then wait for another 2 connections to take us the 26 miles to work every morning.

then when it finally arrives, its dirty and billowing thick black smoke. Its got sick and cigarette burns on the ugly pastel shade seats and ribbish on the floor and smells of urine.
Its also £2.00 to get on.
Then we set off.2 mins into being jerked around like a funfair ride, the 21 year old mcdonalds graduates phone rings and he chats away merrily about last nights episode of little britain 2 his pot smoking friends, whose house he left 20 mins ago stubbing out a joint.
We then pull into a petrol station to fill up,because it couldnt be done at the depot. since deregulation they dont have facility for diesel.I look at my watch as the drivers pores over the crisp selection in the petrol station shop.

i arrive at work at 9.30 and get fired for being 3 hours late.

No. cars arent just a show of wealth.

For some yes. For others no.

For a lot of us it's somewhere in between. I've currently got 4 - all roadworthy/taxed/insured etc - and they cost me less than 1 new car

Usually- how many jaguars, escalades and cadilacs have you seen in sh*tty neighborhoods? I've seen plenty. Those people seem to care more about their vehicles than spending the $50-60,000 on a home in a nicer neighborhood for their kids.

No, a real show of wealth is when you have your new sea-going motor-cruiser dragged down the motorway on a low-loader.

For YOUR homework question, consider:

Range and flexibility of public transport.

Size of car verses requirement. A family with 4 children SHOULD need a bigger car than 1 person. Does that happen?

The role of sports or super cars.
