*how can these be the word of god and not some sexist jerk?????

"Women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but should be submissive, as the law also says." (1 Corinthians 14:34)

"One of illegitimate birth shall not enter the congregation of the Lord." this mean those of you who parents who weren't married when you were born will NEVER be accepted into the church.

"But if ... evidences of virginity are not found for the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones..."

and yes some of you MIGHT say these are out dated... then WHY isnt the whole book considered out dated? how can you all pick and chose what you want to follow?

Taking a few verses and not understanding nor studying the culture and the times behind the verses causes much misunderstanding.

I am a woman, I am a child of God, and I also believe that the bible is the word of God.

Now, for the 1 Corinthians 14: 34

Paul was given a large and difficult job of bringing two very different cultures together in their new found belief of Jesus Christ, their Lord and Savior.

Group number one was the Jews that believed upon Jesus. This group had never before allowed women into their inner temples and also the women had never been taught to read or write. Now that these men believed upon Jesus, they also believed what Jesus taught and that was that they were all loved by God and God would use man and woman to further his will and his way and his word. So, now these men would have to allow the women into the church and worship God.

This new found freedom of the women caused much disruption in the church, as the men kept the women one one side of the church and they sat on the other. Women did not understand much of what was being taught and when they wanted to understand something, they would yell across the room to their husband and ask them to explain what was just said to them.

The church at Corinth wrote to Paul and asked him what to do with this very difficult situation. Paul wrote back and stated that the women should remain quiet in church and wait until they got home to ask their husbands the questions.

Paul never intended women to be silent in church. In fact, if you read other parts of the new testament, Paul put at least three women in charge of different churches.

Now, you didnt ask about the covering of the head of the women, but this refers to the other culture (Pagen) that now believed upon the Lord and the problems of merging these two cultures. If you want to know the culture and the story behind that writing , i will be glad to e mail you about that.

Hope this explains a bit for you.

- Should the Bible be the final authority of Christianity or the Church? Well, Christ stated that the Church, not Scripture should be the final authority: "And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the Church: but if he neglect to hear the Church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican." (Matthew 18:17 ) Christ did not state to refer to or consult Scripture for disputes and correction. He said to go to the Church as It is the final authority in Christianity. In addition, St. Paul states that the Church, not Scripture is "THE pillar and ground of the truth." (1 Timothy 3:15) Since the Church alone is mentioned as the pillar of truth, then It alone has the right to discern the truth and interpret Scripture. For if individuals could correctly interpret Scripture, then all interpretations would be exactly the same as there can only be one Spiritual Truth for the plural of the word "truth" never appears in Scripture. The Church is Christ's bride (Ephesians 5:29) and has "no spot, wrinkle or blemish" (Ephesians 5:27). Christ also stated that the gates of Hell will not prevail against His Church (Matthew 16:18) so how can the Church commit error? Individual clergy may commit sins, even popes commit sins because in the Church there are both "weeds and wheat" (Matthew 13:30).
>>>>>Is the Bible the "pillar of truth" in the Christian religion? No. According to the Bible Itself, the Church is the "pillar of truth" (1 Timothy 3:15), not the Bible. Some "Bible" Christians insist that a "pillar" (the Church) was created to "hold up" another structure (the Bible). They claim the Bible is the structure being held up according to this passage. Well, if that is the case, how did the early Church "hold up" the Bible for the first three to four hundred years when the Bible Itself didn't even exist? Also, even if the Church is only a "pillar" holding up the Bible, doesn't that mean that the Church is the interpreter of Scripture rather than the individual?
>>>>>Did the early Christians have the Bible as we know it? No. The Bible as a whole was not compiled until the late 4th century and then it was compiled by a Catholic saint (St. Jerome) at the request of a Catholic pope (St. Damasus I). So how were the early Christians saved if they did not possess the entire written "Word of God" to follow His teachings? Well, naturally, they were the Body of Christ and were taught through "oral" teachings by the Church, not by writings.

Way to take scripture out of context. Let's examine "Women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but should be submissive, as the law also says." (1 Corinthians 14:34) it is simply referring to at the time men and women did not sit together in churches but on opposite sides. the women would call out to the husbands asking them to explain certain things which was interrupting the service.

One thing people forget is that the Bible is a history book. The Old Testament is history for Christians The New Testament is what Christians should live by. The New Testament gives Christians the guidelines to which the Christian should live by. The Book Of Acts is a guideline for the church. In both testaments there are books of eschatology. Therefore the Bible is not only a history book but a book for the present and the future.

Peace!
The Bible does not always teach. There are many stories in the Bible which are not meant as teaching. They are there for historical, geographical, cultural, poetic or other reasons. We say it is the Word of God when it teaches those things which has something to do with our salvation.
I can prove to you that the Bible is the Word of God. Practise Christ's teaching on forgiveness. Jesus said if we cannot forgive others their sins he will also not forgive us, which means we cannot enter his Kingdom.
So, forgive everyone who has hurt or offended you, particularly the ones who have hurt you the most. I mean really forgive. Forgive also yourself. Forgive yourself for the things you did and didn't do. I guarantee, you will be a different person after that. If nothing happens, come to me and say all the things you would like to say about the Bible. I will believe you.
God bless.

If you want a great example of Christian doublethink. Think on this,

"One of illegitimate birth shall not enter the congregation of the
Lord."

Does this statement include the most famous illegitimate child on the planet. Jesus Christ?

After all I don't remember God marrying Mary.

Now, I see you too have gotten the point about how Paul encouraged "men" to join his church. In those days you simply convinced a man to join and you got his whole family, whether they liked it or not.

To compensate the worried wives. He preached against divorce.

To encourage Gentiles to join his church he did away with the requirements to be circumcized.

To encourage the average Joe to join his church, he did away with the responsibility to live by the 10 commandments.

should I go on about what Paul preached and Church Empires adopted?

Jesus respected the torah so we keep it in the bible but know it was for the Jews and as for pauls letters remember he was a pharasie of pharasies and so was biast. God can still speak through the bible but we should read it with understanding of the times in which it was written.

There's no doubt that this is an important question. If the Bible is the Word of God, it changes everything – the way we view life, the way we live life, and the choices we make. If the Bible is the Word of God, then the Bible is true, and failure to follow, obey and trust it will have eternal consequences. To ignore God's Word is to ignore God Himself.

God's love is proved by the existence of the Bible. God did not have to communicate to mankind, but He chose to so that we could know Him, enjoy fellowship with Him, and understand ourselves and the world. If He had not taken the first step to reveal Himself to us through His Word, we simply would not know Him, and we would be left to deduce what we could about the world from what we could sense. But God has graciously shown us the Truth, and it is contained in the Bible. Since God is our Creator (Isaiah 40:28), He is our authority (Isaiah 43:15), and His Word is the final authority for humankind, and the only entirely trustworthy moral litmus test (1 John 2:5). It explains life and death and gives us a clear understanding of right and wrong.

So, how do we know for sure that the Bible we have is the actual Word of God? Could the Bible be just another holy book? What is the evidence that the Bible we buy in the bookstore today is truly the Word of God? First, the Bible itself claims to be the Word of God, in 2 Timothy 3:15-17, which says "and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

This is an example of an "internal" evidence that the Bible is the Word of God. Internal evidences are those things stated within the Bible that claim its divine origin. A few other internal evidences are the unity of the Bible, the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible, and the unique, powerful authority of the Bible.

The unity of the Bible means that, even though it was written by more than 40 different authors over three continents, in three different languages, and is comprised of 66 individual documents, it is cohesive down to the last detail. Every supposed contradiction in the Bible can be answered in a satisfactory way. There are no mistakes, and it all works together perfectly. That's a miracle!

The fulfilled prophecies in the Bible also indicate that it is God's Word. Hundreds of prophecies about future kingdoms and nations, and most importantly, the Messiah, were spoken forth and then fulfilled, sometimes hundreds of years later. This is all recorded within the Bible itself. Unlike many modern prophecies, the prophecies in Scripture are very detailed and are fulfilled exactly. There is no way this happened by chance. The only answer is that the Bible is of divine origin.

The Bible's unique authority and power is another internal evidence for its divine origin. This power is revealed by the millions of lives that have been changed by it over the course of human history. Martyrs have given their lives up to preserve its truth. Sinners throughout the ages have been convicted and changed by it, broken hearts have been healed by God's comforting voice coming through its pages, and salvation has been graciously made available through its record of the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. No other book in human history has the power to change lives like the Bible, the Word of the God who created life.

In addition to the internal evidences, there are also external evidences that the Bible is God's Word. The Bible's historicity, the integrity of its human authors, and its indestructibility.

The "historicity of the Bible" means it is true and accurate to the historical events recorded by non-religious sources. Archaeological events and historical writings prove the Bible to be true. It is the best-documented book from the ancient world. The accurate historical records found in the Bible give us proof of its truthfulness about spiritual subjects.

The integrity of its human authors is another external evidence of its truthfulness. When the lives of the authors of Scripture are studied, they are found to be honest men. Their willingness to die for what they believed shows that they were sure of their testimonies. Those who wrote the New Testament (and hundreds of others) had seen Jesus Christ after He rose from the dead. If they had been lying about seeing Him, there is no doubt that at least one of them would have been unwilling to die for what he believed to be false. But all the apostles, without exception, remained true to their testimonies until the end of their lives (1 Corinthians 15:6).

The indestructibility of the Bible is another strong evidence that it is indeed God's Word. Because of its offensive message, which in contrast to every other religion humbles man's ability to save himself and provides the need for God's grace instead (Ephesians 2:8-9), the Bible has endured more attacks and attempts to eliminate it than any other book in history. From the early Romans, to the communist dictators, to the atheists and agnostics of modernism and postmodernism, the Bible has survived and is still published more than any other book worldwide.

Over the ages, scoffers have called the Bible a myth, but archeological records have proved it historicity. Others have denounced its teachings as outdated and useless, but its positive impact on the moral and legal systems of cultures around the world is undeniable. Scientists, psychologists and politicians continue to attack the Bible, but its truth has never been disproven and its light has never been snuffed out. It continues to change lives and cultures just as it did 2,000 years ago. God supernaturally protects the Bible, proving that it is indeed His Word, just as it claims to be. Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away" (Mark 13:31). When all the evidence is before us, there is no doubt that the Bible is truly the Word of God.
