i am trying to put together a youth discussion on fighting. A few in my group have a problem with fighting at school, but i want to gear it towards everyone. So i want to do like, Shining brightly for Christ, and for us to live how he intends for us to and what not. Any pointers? Any advice? Anything? Games? whatever anyone can help me with would be awesome. God Bless!

Religion doesn't show a good example when it comes to fighting. Instead, teach them the consequences of fighting and show them when it is appropriate or not appropriate. Get them to use their own minds and they'll more likely make the lessons their own.

I think maybe you should focus on anger over fighting, because it seems to be the anger that makes someone want to react to fighting. You should point out all the reasons Jesus could have used for fighting, but chose not to. You can point out the story of Joseph who could have fought his brothers, but chose not to and was rewarded in time. You can let them know that they will be blessed when they choose to take the high road. I remember at that age I thought fighting was cool and I wanted to see a lot, but now I see it takes a stronger person to keep their cool. It's a hard discussion because you are going against the grain of teenagers. They fight about everything. Not just physically, but verbally. I wish I had more pointers. Good Luck and God bless.

I was just doing this Bible study with the teens in Bible class on responsibility. One of the stories that came up was on Absalom and David. Absalom was David's son and he rebelled against him (the king) and tried to get all of Israel against his father instead of doing what he should as his king's servant and as his father's son... he didn't show respect and honor and servitude. What happened in the end is that David had to go against his son and the army that followed him. Over 20,000 men died including Absalom and David's heart was broken over the loss of his son because he didn't want that to happen. Why don't you check it out in 2 Samuel 15 &18 in the NIV version. Maybe this will help. Lord's blessing to you on this! :)

Don't forget the most important motivation of all to remind those kids: Jesus died on the cross for our sins and we receive heaven because of that. We should live God-pleasing lives out of thanksgiving for that wonderful blessing! Never lose sight of that incredible gospel message with them! :)
