Ever since I was little, ive always wanted to go to L.A. Theres always been something about it that really interests me. My friend & I were thinking about going out there for a few weeks or something and 'trying it out'. I would really like to live out there. I also would like to attend FIDM & get a nice job.
The only problem is, ive never actually been to a big city like L.A. I live in a small town in the south.I really want to move there & go to college, but im so afraid that I will get out there & be homesick and clueless.
Also, what are places to avoid, such as parts of town, restaurants, hotels...etc.?
Has anyone else moved to LA from a small town???
Thanks =]

....You have a chance to go to a great school in downtown L.A. (they have a housing office for you) in a business line you want to go into...and you are hesitating???? Gezzz I would run to L.A. as fast as I could...otherwise you'll end up decorating store windows in Birmingham, Alabama forever.....GO Girl...

I grew up in a town with around 250,000 people. It was never popular with the exception of rubber companies, which have all moved out, and the all american soap box derby. So, I packed everything my ex-wife left me on the back of my motorcycle, and moved to Las Vegas. Now at that time, Las Vegas wasn't a really big city. But there were millions of tourists.
It was a good trip, I loved being there, but realized that it isn't a good place to raise kids. Their schools have way too many problems.
And now it is growing so fast, that new construction can't keep up with the demand.
So, I am back close to where I started from. But the point is, that I am glad I did it. I am glad I tried.
Nothing ventured... nothing gained.

I would suggest moving to a suburb, many parts of the actual city of Los Angeles are too dangerous and too expensive. I would suggest cities such as Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, Montrose, La Crescenta.

I've found that younger, less traveled people have a VERY difficult time in Los Angeles. Many people get "lost" here. I've seen people come and go. Usually its the older people with THICK spines who can handle it. You have to be very competitive and truly fall in love with the city in order to stay here.
In your case, it sounds like you should go to a smaller city or town for school. That way you can get used to being on your own! And - you can always transfer to FIDM if you're ready to get out to the west-coast sooner!
Good luck!!

Big cities are not welcoming and friendly.
You may well get very home sick.
Would not recommend unless you are a real independent type.
And as you used this site for help I would say you aren't so no stay closer to home just go for a visit or holiday.
