The best place to start a french braid is to trace a line using her fingers, from where your ears begin - put both thumbs at the base of each ear, and pull the hair up until both thumbs meet at the center top of your head.

Well,I feel it depends on the shape of ur face.
If ur face is round then u can start the plaits from near the forehead,but if it is oval shaped ,then it would look good if u start plaiting it from a little behind.

i personaly like it close to forehead. but it really is all how you want it loose or really tight. Tight looks better starting at the top of the head, however loose looks better starting from the back of the head.

Usually at the hairline... but it also depends on style looking for and size of braids.
