Every soldier that deploys to Iraq is given a complete brief of the Rules of Engagement. I know that the ROE changes from time to time, depending on the current situations and who is in charge over there. However, the ROE always exists. As a soldier, you are authorized to use deadly force if you are in fear for your life, if one of your fellow soldiers is in imminenet danger, or if there is a place or piece of equipment that your commander deems vital enough to authorize the use of deadly force to protect. The most important part of the ROE is the statement that you were in fear for your life. This is important because the investigators will judge your decision from your statement and the statements of the soldiers around you. If your life or the lives of your fellow soldiers is not actually in danger, than you are not authorized the use of deadly force. I know that a person can argue that over there your life is constatnly in danger, and that is true, but is the presentation of deadly force against you or your fellow soldiers present at the time that you utilized deadly force?
As for the previous statements about "they train you to kill and then they jail you for doing what you are trained to do".... I say bull. The military gives you the capabilities to defend yourself, your fellow soldiers, and your equipment. This training is not a green light to kill anyone over in Iraq that you want to. I am not saying that I blame the soldier, but I am saying that I blame that soldiers NCO's and his leadership. They should have ensured that the soldier understood the Rules of Engagement and led by example.

War is he-ll, I will not argue that. But there are laws that have to and should be followed. This soldier admitted his guilt. And to all those people on here who disagree with this sentence, put the shoe on the other foot. How would you feel if it was American soldiers that were killed like this?

I think the press and the antiwar weenies just love a chance to point at something our troops did wrong.
Most of the ones saying they're against the war, but support the troops couldn't care less about the troops, but don't want to be caught dissing them. This is the chance they have been waiting for, and the barely contained glee makes me sick.

I say just because he may be fighting for the blue red and white... doesn't mean he is neccessarily a good guy in the eyes of the public. Look at Mcveigh.

I think that he would not be in this position had Bush not taken us into this illegal war!
having said that, I must agree with the law. We are a country that has laws.. and murder is punishable. what he and the others did was abhorrent and we would execute them if they had done it in America.
I don't like that I have that opinion, because my heart goes out to this young person who has ruined his life in many ways... i cannot imagine what went crazy in him and the others to do this terrible thing. But we are people and not animals and we do not think it is okay to treat other human beings cruelly... we are not terrorists and should not take on the mentality of them.

I see his plea is that he was just doing what he was told. Amazing to see that people can think their going to escape punishment because they were unthinking tools isn't it. As if not objecting to an illegal order was the right thing to do.

it's bullshit, they train us and send us over there to kill then jail people who are just doing their job
not saying what he did was right but most of the time you have no idea who the enemy is.
