I am American but I must say ive been making ginger beer for some time which i understand to of English origin. Ive been making it with a recipie that produces little alcohol because that is all I knew. I wish for it to have more of a kick now. Does anybody have a 2 liter (or litre i suppose) recipie for ginger beer that is highly alcoholic and still tastes good as hell?

Thanks

I have another more in depth recipe but it is much longer than the following one:

IMPORTANT
1) Since there is potential for explosion, DO NOT USE GLASS
2) When creating ginger beer keep in mind that the highest alchohol content you will ever be able to obtain without adding whiskey is 11%

Starting a GBP (Ginger Beer Plant- the mixture of microorganizems that produces your ginger beer)

1. take 1/2 oz fresh bakers yeast mixed with 1 pint of warm water in a
covered jug.
2. Every day feed the above mixture with 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 teaspoon
ground ginger and stir.
3. After one week, leave to stand for 24 hours and strain off the clear
liquor.
4. Make a sugar solution of 1lb sugar to 4 pints water, add the liquor to
this and bottle in strong plastic bottles and store.
5. Divide the original plant into two and add one pint water and feed
daily as before. The plant must be split each week or it will die.
6. Leave the bottled ginger beer for one week (if you can) before
consumption.

Good Luck!

Although I don't have a recipe, I do have a few ideas. The alcoholic strength is determined by the sugar content, so increase the amount of sugar you use. Instead of using baking yeast, try brewers yeast (available from the home brewing department of your local chemists). Ordinary ginger beer is a low alcohol drink suitable for children (less than 2% a.b.v.)

To pogo off of what Mikey was saying, there is a traditional mixed drink called a Dark and Stormy, which is dark rum mixed with ginger beer. My parents love it and apparently its popular in places down south like Charlestown, SC.

If you are making about 2 liters, throw about two pounds of honey in the mix. That will raise the ABV.
