Basically, we have 12 hours from getting off the plane, to getting on our next flight, and I HATE airports! I'd like to go into the city, even if it's for a quick bit and lunch, any suggestions? Preferably not too far from the airport since we can't miss our flight out! Thanks!

Go to the beach and the Marina. Both not far from the airport. Going the other way (towards Beverly Hills/Hollywood) you'll waste a lot of time in traffic.
There are a lot of great restaurants in Santa Monica, especially on Main Street. There is also Harbor House at the Marina. Sadly, the legendary Alice's Restaurant at Malibu Pier was closed down in 1998 after storms resulting from a strong El Nino wiped the pier out.

If u've never been to Los Angeles, I would suggest going to Hollywood, or just downtown. Los Angeles is a really big city, and finding public transportation is not so easy. So when u get off the airplane, look for an easy way to get into downtown, which should take about an hour, and you can just explore the streets. Don't try to go to too many places, because again the bus system is not so good... The city in general is worth to look though.

Stay near the airport! Try: Venice Beach for some interesting sites and Santa Monica - 3rd Street Prominade, Main Street and the pier. Santa Monica is also home to Bergamont Station ... its a really cool art collective.

Take a cab into Manhattan Beach. Chill there in the small town and relax on the beach. Walk to Hermosa Beach along the strand: safe and you get some of the California beach vibe ... Grab lunch in Hermosa Beach. Get a cab to go back or keep walking South to Redondo Beach Pier ... Cab back to LAX ..

Marina Del Rey and Venice Beach are just north of LAX, take a cab and see the sights.

i have a good ideal goto disneyland and or rent a hotel room and swim for few hours to refresh your mind before your next flight

and even let you leave your luggage with them
